Sequence words: after, before, then, next & when

Estas palabras te servirán para establecer secuencias cuando estás describiendo eventos o rutinas, funcionan como conectores entre dos oraciones y te permiten establecer el orden de las acciones. Veamos sus significados y cómo puedes usarlas.

After & Before

Ambas palabras funcionan como preposiciones y conjunciones, after significa "después" y before "antes". Se pueden usar antes de un sustantivo, frase sustantiva (noun phrase) o un verbo con terminación -ing o de una oración entre otras formas. Ejemplos:

After I finish school, I will start working.
Daniel goes to school after having breakfast.
After his breakfast, Daniel goes to school. 
I work after school.
I called my girlfriend before she sent me a confusing message. 
My friends went for a coffee before their class.
They pay me before vacations.

Then 

Podemos usar este adverbio como "entonces, en ese momento, después". Ejemplos:

She was in her house, then she heard a weird noise from the kitchen.
I will go to work, then I'll have money to buy a new jacket.

Next

Esta palabra tiene varias formas y usos, pero la podemos usar para dar secuencia significando "después" de forma muy similar a after, en el caso de next, se le puede emplear para dar indicaciones o instrucciones. Ejemplos:

You have to go with him, next you have to see if he is busy or not.
On my last vacation, I visited my grandfather, next I went to the beach and enjoyed a delicious lunch.  

When

Esta es otra palabra con diferentes usos, pero que podemos usar para dar secuencia o interrumpir acciones, especialmente en pasado, observa:

When I was talking, she arrived and everybody went with her.
The baby was sleeping when the thunder woke him up.
